How do I prepare my willow for weaving?
For this course you will be using so-called 'brown willow', which is willow in it's natural state with the bark still on.
To make it pliable for weaving you will need to soak it for three days in the soaking bag provided with the kit.
That might sound like a lot but it's extremely easy - all you do is put the willow in the bag, fill it with water and leave it outside on the ground (full instructions are included in the course).
Brown willow is essential for this project because we've found that it's actually easier for beginners to work with. It's more flexible and it never snaps when you're weaving it round tight corners - and there are plenty of those in this course!
If you've never used brown willow before it's an absolute must, and once you've tried it you'll never look back!
How long does each project to make?
Each project will take you around 1-1.5 hours to make.
What else will I need?
We design all our courses so that they require absolutely minimal
tools. To do this course you will need:
- A pair of secateurs
- Some celotape
- A tape measure
- Maybe a glass of wine!
That’s it!
