About this course and kit
In this brand new course and kit, you’ll learn to create a family of beautiful willow swallows to hand on your wall or in your garden. Each kit comes with enough willow to weave al least three full-size swallows and maybe a couple of smaller ones too! During the course you’ll learn how to create the curved wings, how to weave the body and how to attach the two of them together. For this course you'll use natural unpeeled willow as it can be left outside without deteriorating and its also better for bending round tight corners. Check out the trailer above for more details.

How do I prepare my willow for weaving?
For this course you will be using so-called 'brown willow', which is willow in it's natural state with the bark still on.
To make it pliable for weaving you will need to soak it for three days in the soaking bag provided with the kit.
That might sound like a lot but it's extremely easy - all you do is put the willow in the bag, fill it with water and leave it outside on the ground (full instructions are included in the course).
Brown willow is essential for this project because the bark will protect your bird feeder from the elements.
But we also now offer brown willow courses because we've found that it's actually easier for beginners to work with. It's more flexible and it never snaps when you're weaving it round tight corners - and there are plenty of those in this course!
If you've never used brown willow before it's an absolute must, and once you've tried it you'll never look back!
How long does a swallow take to make?
Each swallow will take you around 1-1.5 hours to make.
What else do I need?
We design all our courses so that they require absolutely minimal
tools. To do this course you will need:
- A pair of secateurs
- Some string
- Some celotape
- A tape measure
That’s it!
