    About this course and kit

    Bowmaking is perhaps the most ancient and fascinating craft there is. Wooden bows have been in our hands for tens of thousands of years, and nothing brings you closer to the mindset and experience of
    our ancestors than learning to make them.

    With a few simple tools and the right advice, it is very possible to make beautiful bows at home, and this online course and kit has been specially designed to help you do it. The online course includes 4.5 hours of expert instruction with leading bowmaker and teacher Nick Mcmillen, covering every aspect of making a classic English Longbow. You will then receive a wonderful kit including a carefully selected ash bow stave, a delux Japanese saw rasp, and tools and materials for making a bow string.

    By the end of the course you will have crafted a beautiful ash English longbow that fits you and will last for many years.

    Who is this course for?

    This course is suitable for beginners with some craft experience.

    What is included in the course and kit?

    In the kit you will receive:

    • A premium, hand selected Ash bow stave ideal for making a longbow.
    • A heavy duty rasp for refining the shape of the bow.
    • A cabinet scraper for refining the shape.
    • A roll of bow string material.
    • A string server and serving material for protecting the string.
    • Bees wax for finishing the string.
    • Additional tools for making a tiller (this helps you get the bow bending in a smooth arc).
    • Cord for tillering the bow.

    The online course contains over 4 hours of expert instruction with leading bowyer and teacher Nick McMillen. It covers every aspect of bowmaking. You can access the course from any device by logging into our website (we will provide you with login details after purchase). Our courses are produced by our BAFTA-winning
    team of filmmakers which means they are cleary presented and well
    thought out. Students get the right piece of information at the right
    time, which means they get great results. Plus we are always on hand to
    answer questions.

    What else do i need?

    All the basic kit you will need is inlcuded in the course, but you may need a couple of other items that you will already have lying around the house:

    • A pair of clamps
    • A set of scales
    • A small amount of wood glue
    • A ruler and pencil.
