    Mollie McMillen.

  • Our courses are produced by our BAFTA-winning team of filmmakers which means
they are clearly presented and well thought out.

How do I prepare my willow for weaving?

For this course you will be using brown willow, which is willow in it's natural state with the bark still on.

To make it pliable for weaving you will need to soak it for five days in the soaking bag provided with the kit.

That might sound like a lot but it's extremely easy - all you do is put the willow in the bag, fill it with water and leave it outside on the ground (full instructions are included in the course).

Brown willow is essential for this project because the bark will protect your bird feeder from the elements.

But we also now offer brown willow courses because we've found that it's actually easier for beginners to work with. It's more flexible and it never snaps when you're weaving it.

If you've never used brown willow before it's an absolute must!

How long does the basket take to make?

The basket can be made in two sessions of approximately 3 hours each.

What else do I need?

We design all our courses so that they require absolutely minimal
tools. To do this course you will need:

  • A pair of secateurs
  • An old screwdriver to help make gaps in the weave
  • A craft knife
  • A tape measure

That’s it!

What our customer are saying:

"Brilliant. Fantastic. Highly recommended The videos were really easy to understand. They broke each step down into small easy to perform steps. The instructors say when something might be tricky so you can watch several times. The kit itself was brilliant with everything you need. Although not perfect it was really straightforward to produce a basket that was good enough for us and to give away. The support from the company is excellent."

"I received this course as a birthday gift. This is the first time I’ve done any willow weaving. I loved it. the videos are easy to follow, pause and repeat as often as you want. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to do the basics of willow weaving. It makes a brilliant gift as the person receiving it can do it at their own pace."

Linda H.

"I was gifted this kit for my birthday (lucky me!) and just completed it this weekend. Thrilled with the finished basket. The instructions and video clip are so easy to follow. And it really helps to be able to go back to it when spare time permits. Mollie's relaxed and friendly teaching style made it all the more engaging. I'd definitely recommend giving it a go, its totally absorbing. You'll have fun and get a beautiful basket to use!!"
