Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for complete beginners. It's super easy!

What's included in the course and kit?

In the willow plant support kit you will receive:

  • One large bundle of thick high-quality willow weaving rods – these will form the uprights.
  • One large bundle of thinner rods - these will for the spiral weave that travels up the plant support.
  • All our willow is sustainably grown in Somerset. 
  • A soaking bag - your willow will need to be soaked for a few days before you weave it - full instructions are included.
  • One information leaflet.

The course includes:

  • Over three hours of expert instruction with leading basketmaker and teacher Mollie McMillen. 
  • You can access the course from any device by logging into our website (we will provide you with login details after purchase). 
  • Our courses are produced by our BAFTA-winning team of filmmakers which means they are clearly presented and well thought out. 
  • Students are taught the right information at the right time, which means they get great results. Plus we are always on hand to answer questions.

How do I prepare my willow for weaving?

For this course you will be using so-called 'brown willow', which is willow in its natural state with the bark still on. 

This is essential because the bark will protect your plant support from the weather when it's outside.

To make brown willow pliable for weaving you will need to soak it for 5 days in the soaking bag provided with your kit. 

That might sound like a lot but it's extremely easy - all you do is put the willow in the bag, fill it with water and leave it outside on the ground (full instructions are included in the course).

We now offer brown willow courses because we've found that although it take longer to soak, it's actually easier for beginners to work with. It's more flexible and it never snaps when you're weaving it round tight corners.

It's also prettier and allows the weaver to use different varieties of willow with different-coloured barks.

If you've never used brown willow before it's an absolute must, and once you've tried it you'll never look back!

How long does the plant support take to make?

Each plant support will take around 2 hours to make.

What else do I need?

We design all our courses so that they require absolutely minimal

tools. To do this course you will need: 

  • A pair of secateurs
  • Some celotape
  • A tape measure

That’s it!

Can I do this course with a friend?

Our courses are great to do in a group! If you would like more than one kit, just select the number you would like at checkout.

After purchase, we will email you a unique access link for each member of your group. All you need to do is forward one of these on to each student. EASY PEASY!

Can I give this course as a gift?

Our courses make wonderful presents. In order to gift one, simply buy the course yourself.

You can watch the course online through any browser. If you're on your mobile or tablet you can also watch it via our app, which is called Teachable.

If you are unsatisfied with your course in any way, contact us in the first 30 days and we will give you a refund. Our courses are also transferrable, which means that if you don't feel you have bought the right one for your skill level, we will advise you and then transfer you to the right product.
