    About this course and kit

    In this brand new course and kit, you’ll learn to weave this beautiful willow shoulder bag complete with a leather strap. You'll get lifetime access to Mollie Mcmillen's lovely 3-hour online course, plus all the materials you need will be delivered to your door!  During the course you’ll learn how to tackle a Catalan square base, how to weave a beautiful spiral-pattern English rand on the sides, and how to attach a lovely leather shoulder strap. This will make your basket super-comfy to carry.

    Who is this course for?

    This course is suitable for complete beginners!

    What's included in the course and kit?

    In the kit you will receive:

    • One large bundles of high-quality willow weaving rods – all sustainably grown in Somerset.
    • A leather shoulder strap plus leather thongs for attaching it. (This is super easy and fun to do and no stitching is required.)
    • A soaking bag - your willow will need to be soaked for a few days before you weave it - full instructions are included.

    The course includes:

    • Over three hours of expert instruction with leading basketmaker and teacher
      Mollie McMillen. 
    • You can access the course from any device by logging into our website (we will provide you with login details after purchase). 
    • Our courses are produced by our BAFTA-winning team of filmmakers which means they are clearly presented and well thought out. 
    • Students are taught the right information at the right time, which means they
      get great results. Plus we are always on hand to answer questions.

    What else do I need?

    We design all our courses so that they require absolutely minimal
    tools. To do this course you will need: 

    • A pair of snippers
    • An old screwdriver to help make gaps in the weave
    • Some string
    • A tape measure

    That’s it!

    How do I prepare my willow for weaving?

    For this course you will be using brown willow, which is willow in it's natural state with the bark still on. 

    To make it pliable for weaving you will need to soak it for three days in the soaking bag provided with the kit. 

    That might sound like a lot but it's extremely easy - all you do is put the willow in the bag, fill it with water and leave it outside on the ground (full instructions are included in the course).

    Brown willow is essential for this project because the bark will protect your bird feeder from the elements.

    But we also now offer brown willow courses because we've found that it's
    actually easier for beginners to work with. It's more flexible and it
    never snaps when you're weaving it.

    If you've never used brown willow before it's an absolute must!

    Learning a new craft is amazing for our brains and our wellbeing, but we often find it too daunting and time-consuming to get started. With our specially-designed craft projects you can have everything you need delivered to your door with a couple of clicks so you can fit your creativity in around your other committments.

    Can I do this course with a friend?

    Our courses are great to do in a group! If you would like more than one kit, just select the number you would like at checkout.

    After purchase, we will email you a unique access link for each member of your group. All you need to do is forward one of these on to each student. EASY PEASY!

    Can I give this course as a gift?

    Our courses make wonderful presents. In order to gift one, simply buy the course yourself.
